What to do...

I haven't posted in a while.. I was hoping my knees would just get better with rest.

Apparently they don't..

Which means no jogging and not too much of doing anything!

I'll be back as soon as I find a solution or a GP!

Day Off

Yesterday I jogged a good 30 mins and then did some muscle work. I came home feeling good and decided to go shopping a bit. A bit turned into 2 hours of walking around and I came home still feeling good. Later on, the knee pain appeared. And within an hour I could feel my knee completely stiff and in pain. I went to the pharmacy in search of pain killers and came back to more excruciating pain.

I don't know how to deal with this pain. I really need advice.

Here were the choices;

- Heat patches
- Heat rub
- Ibuprofen
- Glucosamine and cod liver oil for something more long-term
(Seriously, have you seen the size of these things??? No? Well next time you go to a pharmacy have a look, they display the actual size of the capsules on the box.)

I came home with heat rub because it was the least expensive and most fitted. The heat patches seem nice but they are one use and work for 8 hours. Am I supposed to keep these on while sleeping? They are also quite expensive as they are one-use only.

Heat rub wasn't too satisfying either. It just felt like more pain to distract me from the actual pain. And what's worse; I still have pain this morning. I will seek medical advice pretty soon...

On another note, I found a couple of nice things I thought I might post here! When I bought my adidas it said they were 'micoach' compatible. I thought hey that's great! I have an ipod! Let's try it on!

And then I realized it's only for iphone.. what a disappointment.
I don't know if it's any good, but I'd like to know!

I'm still using this little tool; Jogging Calculator

Nothing too fancy, but it maps my jogging routes and tells me how much I might have been burning off and so on.. There probably is a good ipod app for free out there... I'll keep looking.

New Shoes and Asthma

I haven't been running as often as I used to. My knees hurt really bad lately, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my knees are just made that way. Maybe both. It hurts in the front on both sides and cracks all the time. I might just get a support for it. I don't remember what they are called, but it's stretch fabric with metal lines on the side. I'll come back to this later

That's not the main reason why I didn't run lately however. I've been incredibly tired, sleeping more than 10 hours per night. At first I thought it was just a cold or something I was fighting off. Then I realized that I was getting headaches and started coughing. That's when I grabbed my asthma pump.

And just like that, overnight I was all better.

So, I finally got to try my new adidas supernova glide 2 (seriously, could they make the name any longer?). I'm not sure I'm as convinced as I was when I tried them on. There is an improvement, it really feels like gliding. The cushionning however seemed a lot smoother before...

Now I need to upgrade my running gear for the change of season...

Running, Destroyed Knees and Aditour

I started jogging 2 years ago in Berlin. I wanted to get back in shape but didn't want to spend any money on either equipment or gym. I grabbed the cheapest (and best looking!) shoes I could find and started going jogging in the mornings. It felt so nice!

Now, my shoes are really damaged and I'm in London. I'm jogging on asphalt most of the times, unlike in Berlin where I was running on softer grounds. The humidity level here is also pretty high on average so my knees really crack and hurt all the time. I bought soles for my shoes but it still wasn't enough to fix the problem.

A week ago, I got talked into the aditour stand to go and get my feet scanned and advised on shoes. This happened as they randomly set it up on a corner I cross on my way back from jogging. That's pretty awesome as a random event.

Unfortunatly for them (good for me), I didn't have any money on me and didn't buy the shoes they made me try. Although it did feel like walking on little clouds! The shoes are Adidas Supernova Glide 2 and I ordered them from amazon.

Now let's see if this helps anything to the knee pain...
